Creative Ways to Decorate your Rental

Everyone deserves to have a house feel like a home. Even if you are renting, there are creative ways you can decorate to make it more 'you'.

YOUR STYLE

Keeping your interior furniture to a specific ascetic such as Scandinavian or Coastal can really assist in a cohesive look throughout the home. In achieving this, you are creating spaces that are viewed as more permanent features rather than temporary or thrown together

FLOOR COVERINGS

Whether your rental has floorboards, carpet or tiles, having a few really nice rugs can help once again tie in your desired ascetic and also define spaces. Rugs can help to create 'zones' if your have an open plan living area, lifting certain spaces and redefining them.

Not only do they look great, but they can also add an additional layer of protection which could be helpful when the time comes to leave.

LIGHTING

While you can't really change whatever ceiling lighting your rental has, you can definitely change the ambience by adding some floor lamps with warmer coloured bulbs to create more of a cozy vibe.

WALL ART

Art is such a big way of showcasing your style as it is such a personal choice. Scale and positioning are also very important factors for wall art. Typically, some popular locations for say a large scale piece are behind the couch or above the bed.

You also do not need to limit yourself to artwork on canvas. Beautiful macramé hangings or Jute art are also wonderful options.

*It is important to talk with your property manager if you have larger pieces to hang that will not be held up by removable hooks as the landlords approval will have to be sought to secure with nails etc.

PLANTS

There are many benefits to adding a few house plants. Not only are they known to elevate your mood, but they also assist in the overall feel and décor of a home. If you are anything like me, you may want to stick to some hardy succulents or I have also found Peace Lilies to be stubbornly hard to kill. Faux plants have also come a long way in looking very realistic if you don't want to end up with a plant massacre on your hands!
